Understanding Trauma

Complex PTSD is more than a diagnosis; it is a profound response to the nervous system's survival mechanisms. When safety is compromised, the body's ability to regulate stress is disrupted, leading to chronic hypervigilance and emotional dysregulation. We focus on the practical realities of what happens when systems break down, ensuring that organisational culture prioritises connection and human safety over clinical labels.

Hypervigilance

A state of constant alertness where the nervous system is always scanning for threats. This response is often triggered by a perceived lack of safety in the environment.

Nervous System Responses

Understanding how the nervous system responds to stress is the foundation of trauma-informed practice. We focus on the practical implementation of these responses to ensure safety and connection.

Dissociation

A psychological process where a person disconnects from their thoughts, feelings, or sense of identity. It is a protective mechanism used to escape overwhelming stress.

Emotional Regulation

The ability to manage and respond to emotional stimuli in a healthy and constructive way. This is the cornerstone of building resilience and healthy relationships.
